Applicability
Polycrystalline diamond blanks as a base material can be successfully applied in almost any wire drawing operation, from rod-size to intermediate and fine size wires.
The randomly oriented sintered diamond crystal structure makes these nib types stay round during use and its longevity is known to outperform both natural and synthetic single crystal diamond dies.
Typical application areas:
• Copper wire
• Aluminum wire
• Tungsten wire
• Molybdenum wire
• Stainless steel wire
• Coated steel wire
• Special alloy and high performance alloy wire
• Precious metal wire
• Various other ferrous and non-ferrous metal wire types
Product use
Polycrystalline diamond can be chosen as a raw material for the following products from SK DIES:
• Wire drawing dies
• Shaped wire drawing dies
• Split dies
• Bunching/Stranding dies
• Extrusion tools (both tips and dies)
• Compacting dies
• Refurbishing/recutting drawing dies
• Guide dies
• Burnishing dies
Applicability
Synthetic single crystal diamond has nearly the same material properties as natural diamond, therefore SSCD diamonds should be applicable in the same application areas as where natural diamonds are applied.
Synthetic single crystal diamond dies are successfully applied in both ferrous and non-ferrous wire drawing industries. An advantage of SSCD drawing dies is that the blank dimensions are more consistent than natural diamond blanks, and therefore give a more predictable recut performance than natural diamond drawing dies.
Typical application areas:
• Bonding wire (gold, copper, aluminum)
• Medical wire
• Stainless steel wire
• Copper wire
• EDM wire
• Special alloy and high performance alloy wire
• Precious metal wire
• Various other ferrous and non-ferrous metal wire types
Product use
Synthetic single crystal diamond can be chosen as a raw material for the following products from SK DIES:
• Wire drawing dies
• Shaped wire drawing dies
• Bunching/Stranding dies
• Extrusion tools
• Compacting dies
• Refurbishing/recutting drawing dies
• Burnishing dies
Applicability
SSCD and PCD blanks were invented in recent decades and are gradually replacing natural diamond dies in some applications.
Natural diamond dies are still successfully used for applications that require excellent wire surface qualities, high heat resistance and in applications that require a die material that is not electrically conductive.
Typical application areas:
• Tungsten filament wire
• Bonding wire (gold, copper, aluminum)
• Medical wire
• Stainless steel wire
• Copper wire
• EDM wire
• Special alloy and high performance alloy wire
• Precious metal wire
• Various other ferrous and non-ferrous metal wire types
Product use
Natural diamond can be chosen as a raw material for the following products from SK DIES:
• Wire drawing dies
• Shaped wire drawing dies
• Bunching/Stranding dies
• Extrusion tools
• Compacting dies
• Refurbishing/recutting drawing dies
• Burnishing dies
Applicability
Tungsten carbide has been a base material for drawing dies for over 100 years and continues to be a viable option for many applications. These were, next to natural diamond dies, the first types of drawing dies manufactured by SK DIES. Tungsten Carbide and Natural Diamond were the only materials for many decades. It wasn’t until the invention of SSCD and PCD in recent years that the exclusive use of natural diamond and tungsten carbide was reduced.
Tungsten carbide dies are successfully used for applications that require high heat and shock resistance or when short runs are desired. The affordable cost of Tungsten Carbide makes this possible. Due to the relative ease of machinability and cost effectiveness; Tungsten Carbide is also the preferred material of choice for most shaped wire drawing dies.
Typical application areas:
• Steel wire
• Stainless steel wire
• Copper wire
• Aluminum wire
• Tungsten wire
• Various other ferrous and non-ferrous metal wire types
Product use
Tungsten carbide can be chosen as a raw material for the following products from SK DIES:
• Wire drawing dies
• Shaped wire drawing dies
• Split dies
• Bunching/Stranding dies
• Extrusion tools
• Compacting dies
• Refurbishing/recutting drawing dies
Size range
• 0.005 to 2.00 mm (.00019 - .0787”) - natural diamond wire dies (ND dies)
• 0.010 to 2.05 mm (.00039 - .0807”) - synthetic single crystal diamond wire dies (SSCD dies)
• 0.040 to 35.0 mm (.00157 - 1.378”) - polycrystalline diamond wire dies (PCD dies)
• 0.127 to 76.2 mm (.005 - 3.000”) - tungsten carbide wire dies (T/C dies)
1) Ordinary PCD Die
Ordinary PCD die is mostly applicable to draw low carbon steel wires (iron wires) and the performance-price ratio is very high, for example,a America company drawn around 300 tons of low carbon steel wire using our one die (ordinary PCD die with hole diameter 3.4mm). Draw low carbon steel wires, ordinary PCD die is the first choice compare with other PCD dies and tungsten carbide dies.
Features:
● Good wear resistance
● Good surface finish
● High machine efficiency
● Repeatability
● Low cost
● Hole diameters: 0.201 - 9.00 mm
